“Nate’s Big Almost School Suspension”

I have seen some posts on WordPress recently that concern me. One in particular indicated the author had been told something like, “If you don’t agree with my interpretation of the Bible, then you must have a demon in you.” Because of things like this, I feel compelled to say something. Just as Laser Eyes Jesus said in today’s comic strip, for those of us who are in Christ, this has already been dealt with by Real Life Jesus (“that guy on the hill over there”). This is just a brief post about a very deep topic, but I just feel like I need to say something.

So what do you think? Would you consider the devil and demons as described in the Bible a type of Alien Invader? I truly do not intend to make light of them, because they are a serious thing, but I also know that Jesus dealt with them in a serious way.

In the Bible, demons do the things that we see Alien Invaders doing in some science fiction movies: attempting to take over the earth, enslaving all of mankind, forcing people to act against God’s will, trying to usurp all authority on Earth and in Heaven! And as far as I know they don’t have a planet of their own to come from.

But do not fear! Their attempts are doomed! Jesus has already defeated them! He is victorious!

When Jesus was born, there was an entire Angel Army there! An Armed Heavenly Host! Protecting Him! Waiting for His orders!

Jesus defeated Satan when tempted in the wilderness for forty days! He is now our example for meeting those temptations!

Jesus went about healing and casting out demons! He believed and said they were real, not superstitious! He spoke, they obeyed! His disciples did the same in His Name!

Jesus defeated the devil on the His Cross and in His Resurrection! He took the keys to Death and Hell! Seriously! How can any science fiction movie compare with a true hero like, I believe, Real Life Jesus?!?

He guides, protects, fills with His Spirit, and marks with His Seal those of us who are His own!

In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; this is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God’s own people, to the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:13-14 (NRSV)

  1. I had a pastor I worked under once tell me that those who criticized his ministry at the church and did not agree with his leadership direction were not filled with the Holy Spirit – this came after a very scathing response to a survey he initiated about his leadership – it is amazing how often I have seen Christians use their spiritual gift of judging others (like the spiritual gift of playing golf – not in the Bible) to assess others as not following God properly or not following Him at all, if they don’t agree.

  2. I personally believe (and this is not Biblical) that the ‘alien invasion force’ ARE demons and their leader is Satan. They are here to corrupt man and usually don’t mess with someone who is under their influence (I know). When one starts fighting back by living a Godly life, pursuing the things of God, then one is attacked. Whether they are of the nephlim is conjecture at this point. We are here, and their influence is all around (I REALLY KNOW THIS, AND DEAL WITH THIS DAILY!) It is our lot to persevere and pursue God. It is our way of fighting back.

    1. Yes, I think we are in agreement here. I will say that I have been in places where I could definitely feel an evil presence and the Holy Spirit within me was imploring me to get out of there as quickly as possible! Thankfully, as you know, we have a Victorious Savior! Will be praying for you, that you will remain strong in Jesus and in the power of His Might!

    1. Thanks, Chuck! Glad you liked it, and it is a different twist. I think if I had titled the post “Watch Out For Demons” it would have gotten a shrug or two from people who aren’t familiar with what I try to do here, and then that would have been that, you know?!

    1. Thanks, Janet, you too! And from what I understand that sort of controlling statement of “if you question what I say, then you must be possessed” is more common than what I imagined. Fortunately that message was realized for what it was by the person who heard it! Still…it makes you think…and shudder a little too.

      1. Yeah. I read something just recently that made me cry. Even though it wasn’t said TO me, I felt it. That is actually what prompted me to write about the power of words the other day. I sensed a “tearing down” rather than building up. Ok… enough for one day. 🙂 Time to laugh.

  3. Didnt mean to post that so quickly! Lol You know me, I always have a lot to say.

When I was dating my husband, the Christians he hung out with told him he had a demon and they wanted him to come over so they could pray for him. They may have said that because he was engaged to me and I belonged to a different denomination. I told him, “You’ve given your life to God. You don’t have a demon.” He was relieved and we didn’t go.

From the instances in the Bible, it looks like it must be physically evident when someone is possessed by a demon. Still, I guess there are Satan worshippers who look and act normal.

But to tell people they have a demon if they don’t agree with their theology is laughable.

    1. It’s okay! You always have something worthwhile to contribute! And in this instance something particularly worthwhile! It’s examples like this that help other people to not feel alone and like they are the only one. Feelings like that only empower this type of misguided thinking. Thanks, Belle!

  4. “He took the keys to Heaven and Hell.” Amen. We continually need this reminder that our God is sovereign, and nothing is out of His control. It didn’t stop at His death. His resurrection made all the difference. Thank you for this post, sir! It is much needed.
